Apostille for Documents from Other States

Apostille for documents issued or notarized in other U.S. states. $160 per document, state fee included.

Why California can't do it

The California Secretary of State certifies the signatures of California officials only. It won't apostille a birth certificate from New York, a diploma from Illinois, or a power of attorney notarized by a Florida notary.

A document like that has to go to the state where it was issued or notarized. We take care of it: you send the document to us, and we handle the rest.

Price and turnaround

$160 per document, one price for every state except California. The state fee is already included. Shipping the finished document is extra, usually $20 within the U.S.

Turnaround has two parts: mailing the document to the state and back, and processing in that state, which varies from state to state. We'll tell you the timeline for your state before we start.

Some states offer paid expedited processing. If you need it, we quote the cost individually.

Which states we work with

Any state. The document goes to the state where it was issued or notarized, and we manage the process and send the finished document back.

Frequently asked questions

Can I have the document notarized in California instead to keep things simple?
Only if you can sign in person before a California notary public, since California has no remote notarization. Then the usual route works: a California notarization followed by a California apostille. This doesn't work for birth, marriage, or death certificates, because their apostille goes on the signature of the office that issued them. A diploma from another state also goes to the state where it was issued. If you're not sure which route your document takes, send us a scan.
How long does an apostille from another state take?
It depends on the state: mailing there and back plus the state's own processing time. We'll tell you the timeline for your state before we start.
Is the state fee included in the $160?
Yes, the state fee is already included. Shipping the finished document is extra, usually $20 within the U.S. If you need a state's paid expedited processing, we quote that separately.
Does an apostille confirm what the document says?
No. An apostille certifies the official's signature and authority to sign, along with the seal or stamp. It doesn't check or confirm the content of the document.

A state document is certified by the state that issued it, as the U.S. Department of State explains: travel.state.gov
